Obituary of Charles Floyd Murley
Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Charles Floyd Murley Sr. was known by many as Chuck, Daddy, Papa, and Great Papa. He passed on Saturday, May 15, 2021, at age 90.
Charles was born in Laverty, Oklahoma (SW of Oklahoma City) on April 17, 1931 to Olen and Edith Murley. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad before serving in the US Army. Charles received an Honorable Discharge at the rank of Sergeant First Class for his service on January 9, 1954. He later moved to Texas after returning from the Korean War, where he began working as a pipefitter for Ethyl (Albemarle). Charles married Phyllis Mozelle Thurman on March 12, 1955. She preceded him in death on October 4, 2001. He was a devoted, loving husband, father, papa, son, and brother.
Chuck worked hard to provide. He did his best to take care of so many. He enjoyed time with family whether it was fishing, hunting, traveling, or building houses. He liked to garden, and he was also a great cook! Just ask anyone about his peanut brittle or homemade jellies! He always tried to make sure he carried some to the doctors, nurses, pharmacists and anyone else he crossed paths with. He was full of joy and passed on a contagious smile to everyone around him.
He was a great storyteller! Some were funny, and some were spooky! Just ask his grandchildren. The grandkids enjoyed sleepovers at Papa’s, fun days out for rides and ice cream in the Model A, and sometimes nearly entire summers spent with him. They will also remember Papa’s unwavering presence as he was often a fixture at their events. From school to sports to birthdays, Papa was always there, always available, and always their biggest fan! Every one of his grandchildren or great-grandchildren would love to ‘get their ear bit’ just one more time – because “it’s been too long.”
Charles leaves behind his 5 children: daughter, Edith Burney; son Charles Jr. and wife, Tammy; daughter Sarah Pardee; son Ty and wife, Annette; and daughter Kris Yates. He also has 14 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren and soon expecting the arrival of 1 more great grandchild.
The family would specially like to thank Sarah Pardee, his daughter, for her countless hours of care and support to Charles. Sarah always went above and beyond and provided him with the best care possible, never thinking twice about putting his needs above her own. No one else could have done such an amazing job as she did. Not only did she make sure he was always happy and comfortable, but she also gave tremendous peace of mind to the whole family to know that he was constantly in the best hands. Thank you from the bottom of all our hearts Sarah, we love you and see your selflessness as an example to us all.
