Obituary of Robert Donald Davis
Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert Donald Davis 84 passed away Thursday June 3rd. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert Lindel and Ruby Davis, his wife of 60 years Shirley Jean Cameron Davis, and his sister Eva Lee Herron. Left to remember him are his three daughters Jean Marie Hale and husband Steve, Eva Lynn Langley and husband Chris, and Robin Davis Franks and husband Steve. His grandchildren Elise Cameron, Alexander Hale, Matthew Douglas, Robert Franks, Kathleen Franks, and Michelle Franks also cherish his memory, as do his great grandchildren Logan Cameron and Willow Young.
Robert (“Bob”) was a resident of Morgan’s Point and the LaPorte/Shoreacres area for over forty years. He attended Lutheran High School in Houston where he was active in varsity football, basketball, and the school paper. He graduated in 1955, the same year he married the love of his life, Shirley Jean Cameron. They loved each other dearly until they were separated by her death in 2015.
Bob stayed physically active in men’s Houston area softball throughout his 40s, winning many championships. He also took great joy and fulfillment in coaching boy’s Houston area little league for many years; he loved the relationships and players dearly. Bob served and eventually retired from the Houston Police Department’s Robbery Division as a Detective after 27 years of service. He also served as the Police Chief for Shoreacres, Texas for many years and was well loved in the local community.
He was a private, home-loving man that cherished his family unconditionally. His grandchildren were very special to him and he loved to make them laugh. He would surprise them with silver dollars, cartooned creative rhymes, and hand drawn animal characters that he assigned to each of them – always remembering them on birthdays and holidays.
Bob was a naturalist and appreciated art, he loved maintaining a beautiful back yard with a gazebo and Koi pond. He was a member of the Houston Yacht Club and an adamant, accomplished bay fisherman. Bob was an unwavering St. Louis Cardinal’s fan after living in Missouri as a child. He loved watching old Western serials and movies and listening to 50s music.
The family thanks Bob and Shirley’s loving caregivers, especially Tammy Colomb who worked as their personal nurse and strident friend for over twelve years.
