Ruth Evelyn Jones peacefully passed away July 18, 2021, at the age of 94, surrounded by her three children and two of her grandchildren. She was born to John and Evelena James on May 9, 1927, in Bower, Oklahoma. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years Roscoe H. Jones, parents, sisters Jesse, Jewel and Betty and brother John. She is survived by her three children, Curtis Jones, Linda Jones-Hill and Cynthia Jones-Labossiere, son in law Rick Labossiere, four grandchildren, Christopher Hill, Katherine Jennings (Brandon), Drew Zella and Jack Labossiere, three great grandchildren Micah, Uriah and Vera Jennings, brother Bill and sister Carolyn and many nieces and nephews. Ruth earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Northeastern State College in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She taught Physical Education and worked as a professional Girl Scout Trainer in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She also worked as tennis pro, teaching many individuals to love the game of tennis. She was one of the founding members of the National Senior Women’s Tennis Association (N.S.W.T.A.) now known as the National Women’s Tennis Organization. She played in many local, state, and National tennis tournaments. She achieved the honor of becoming nationally ranked where she received sponsorship. She earned many trophies and recognitions including the first Chris Evert Houston Ladies Tennis Association Service Award. Ruth received many honors, trophies, and awards which she treasured. Later in life Ruth became an avid golfer playing on various golf courses all over the nation and living in Country Place where she had a golf course close by to play any time of day. She camped in most of the Texas State & National Parks with her late husband Roscoe H. Jones. Her love of nature promoted lots of bird watching, gardening, and raising butterflies. She was a wonderful friend to everyone who knew her with her giving heart, smiling face and twinkling eyes. Ruth was always appreciative of her children and grandchildren that were wonderful & loving. In lieu of flowers the family encourages donations be made to First Christian Church or to the National Audubon Society. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 22, 2021, at First Christian Church, 1601 Sunset Blvd., Houston, Texas 77005
