Obituary of Mary Jane Dupre Maltman

Mary Jane Dupre Maltman was born to Euell and Clemence McDaniel Dupre on November 9th, 1933, in Grand Prairie, LA, the oldest of six children. She had three sisters and two brothers, all of whom she adored. She leaves behind her husband of 69 years, Richard H. Maltman, five children, 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her loving parents, precious grandparents, two brothers, one grandchild and one great grandchild. Jane and Richard were married in Evangeline Parish, Louisiana, in 1952, where they began to build their lives in Ville Platte. After having four children, they moved to Texas, where they had their fifth. There she began her teaching career and her ministry in Child Evangelism Fellowship, where she led many Backyards Bible Clubs for children in the 1960s. She devoted her entire life to children, whether it be her own or others. Very few people had heard of Montessori Schools, when in the 1970s, Richard and Jane opened their first two Montessori Schools, The Little Busy Child, in DeRidder and Leesville, Louisiana. She was fortunate to be able to study at Montessori St. Nicholas School in London, England. In the 1980s, Jane opened Dick & Jane Reading Center in La Porte, TX. She was well known as the best reading teacher in the area. She was recognized and loved by generations of former students, long after retirement. She was even blessed to teach several of her grandchildren and their friends in her classroom. Her biggest devotion was always to her family. She was deeply loved by all of them. She spent her retirement years traveling the world with Richard and lived out her final years in the loving care of her devoted husband. The inseparable duo was separated only for a brief time due to illness. She died peacefully with her family, July 22nd, 2021. Her husband is looking forward to finally realizing his dream of “dancing on the clouds” with her in the future. Because of her faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, we know that we will all be reunited, soon. Until then, she will be missed beyond words.
