Obituary of Richard Hazlett Maltman

Richard Maltman was born to William Maltman and Bernice Liddell in N. Wildwood, New Jersey. The second son of nine children. He was preceeded in death by his loving wife, Mary Jane Maltman. Having been married 69 years, he followed her in death after only three weeks. He leaves behind five children, 15 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. He is preceeded in death by one grandchild and one great grandchild. Richard was a true Yankee Doodle Dandy, born on the fourth of July in 1932. He left his famly in New Jersey to serve with honor in the Korean War which led him to his new life in Louisiana, where he met the love of his life and began building his family. He would eventually move the family to Texas. His life spanned from model T's to the Space Shuttle. Richard began a career in the early days of computers - the days when computers filled a room and included punch cards. After moving to Dallas, he not only worked as a computer programmer, he also taught programming at El Centro College. Later in his career he would move to the Houston area to work for Lockheed at Nasa on Skylab. He would also be on the team that worked on the Space Shuttle Columbia . He retired as Senior Computer Analyst from The City of Houston. While in the Houston area, he also taught at Houston Community College. Always learning and volunteering, he obtained many certifications including Accident Prevention Counselor from the Federal Avaiation Administration. He also volunteered many years with Civil Air Patrol where he earned the rank of Captain. He will always be remembered for the love of his country and his fourth of July birthday celebrations. He always said the whole country was celebrating his birthday! He lived his life to honor God, Family and Country. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. However, the love for his wife was unsurpassed. His greatest enjoyment was sharing coffee with her in cafes around the world. When they could no longer travel, he continued to recreate the atmosphere in their home. Because of his faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we know that he has been reunited with his loving wife and has finally realized his dream of "dancing in the clouds' with her. His memory will always be a blessing and life will never be the same without him. He will be forever missed. Romans 8:28 "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose."
