Micaela Ruiz de Pérez
Was born on September 23, 1935, in a small community in the state of San Luis Potosí. Her parents then moved to the small town of Plazuela, where she lived most of her young & adult life.
It was there that she got married, had children, and ran a business until her move to Houston in 2009 to be closer to her family.
Micaela was widely known in her hometown. She was known by everyone as Doña Mica. Her giving nature to the people & projects of Plazuela gained her the respect, love, & admiration of its residents and all who knew her.
Doña Mica, as she was lovingly called by the people could be found behind in her kitchen or behind the counter of her store. When she was in her store she always greeted everyone with a smile and a positive story/word to share. She was also known to give the kids snacks or treats every day after school. This is remembered by so many of them today. Back then times were tough for so many of them and most had no money to purchase, but Doña Mica never let a child go hungry.
When in the kitchen she made sure she always cooked up a feast. Her table was always full with a plethora of homemade Mexican dishes & freshly made corn tortillas. Her family was Micaela’s pride & joy and her love to them was proudly displayed through her food. If her family was fed Micaela was content. She always said her heart was full seeing her children and grandchildren eat.
Micaela was a quiet woman with a strong character, she was a woman that when overcome with obstacles she faced them with her faith in God and her resilient nature.
Micaela came to live in Houston shortly after the death of her youngest daughter. She never went back to her beloved town due to health reasons. However she never forgot where she came from and always had stories to share about her life back in Mexico.
Micaela is loved and will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They will never forget her smile, her laugh, her hugs, her loving advice, her “bendiciones” and her love & faith in God. She was a woman of faith who always made sure to pray the rosary and prayed for each and every single one of her family members.
Micaela will be missed not only by her family but by all those who came across and knew the genuine and loving person she was in this lifetime.
