Obituary of Jean C. Vosloh
Please share a memory of Jean to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jean Carmody Vosloh, 92, passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2021. Born in Cove, TX, to Beatrice and Kenneth Carmody 3 months before the beginning of the Great Depression, Nellie Jean, her parent’s, and her brother Artemus Charles “Artie” Carmody worked hard on the farm raising crops, cattle, and catching and selling fish from “the marsh” and the Trinity River to get by. Jean (as she preferred to be called) attended school in nearby Mont Belvieu. Following her father’s passing, when she was 16, and her graduation from high school, Jean set her sights on moving to Houston where she worked her way through secretarial school by working as a cook and housekeeper while living in a boarding house for single women. Upon graduation, she worked for an insurance agency. Jean also discovered her love of travel while with her friends on a road trip to Carlsbad Caverns, and Acapulco, Mexico. Jean soon married Harold Vosloh, a mechanic and Korean War veteran, and began raising her 2 children Kenneth and Kathy while working as a secretary at the elementary school. At the age of 40 Jean acted on her desire to be a nurse and attended San Jacinto Nursing school where she obtained a 2-year RN degree. Jean began working as a floor nurse and loved being a nurse. She then worked in the ER for many years and finally the Psychiatric unit. Following a short move to Baton Rouge Jean and Harold moved back to her family’s old farm and raised chickens, cattle, and a few acres of butterbeans, field peas and other vegetables while she worked at San Jacinto Methodist until her retirement. Jean was an excellent cook and enjoyed time spent cooking for family and friends. After retirement Jean made many friends at the Senior Center where she enjoyed helping cook for their weekly meals and participating in quilting, ceramics, and other activities. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents, brother Artie, her loving husband Harold, and son Kenneth. She is survived by her daughter Kathy Freeman (Daniel), daughter in law, Mary Vosloh, grandson Benjamin Freeman (Joyce), Nephew Richard Carmody, and Nieces Thelma Diane “Deedee” Carmody, Donna Carmody.
The family would like to thank the many people at the Mont Belvieu Senior Center and the caring staff at Brookdale Clarebridge Memory Care who helped care for Jean in her declining years.
In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Alzheimer’s society, Friends for Life Animal Shelter or charity of your choice.
