My condolences to the Hanks family. I knew Randy in grade school, so many years ago now. He was such a nice person. I am glad to know he had such a remarkable life, and had such a loving family. To Mary and Marlene and all the Hanks family: I was deeply saddened by the news that Randy had ‘gone to be with God’ as my young grandaughters say. I know that he is surrounded by the deepest love there can be, but I also know that he was and will forever be surrounded by your love as well. I remember the night when I was babysitting for Randy, Rory and Ricky ( our next door neighbors) when my boyfriend came by to see me. The boys ended up talking me into letting John take them and one of my brothers, probably Justin, to the ice cream place about a mile away. It was not too good for my babysitting referrals when they got back to the Hanks’ house with ice cream….and a Dallas policeman following them. Those flashing red lights literally lit up the whole neighborhood! Speeding ticket followed. Not good. I didn’t know who to be more scared of, their mother or my mother. I knew that since they were best friends I was certainly in double trouble. Mrs. Hanks was firm but forgiving…my mother certainly made sure I should be grateful it was Mrs. Hanks and not somebody else. Believe me, I am still grateful! My next old memory of Randy was when he brought Mary over to our house to tell us they were engaged. The smiles on their faces! More happy smiles when I watched them get married. Randy was indeed a man of God; very caring and kind. I know he was a great role model, not only to his family, but to the world. I wish all of y’all some of the peace that Randy has now. Randy was a classmate of '74 and a team mate on the BL Friars Football team. My prayers are with his wife and family during this time of loss. I offer my sincere condolences and sympathies. Randy led a remarkable and impressive life helping others for which his family can be very proud of for generations. May his family be comforted by the peace he now experiences in heaven and knowing he is free from the bonds of this earth and release from the suffering he so bravely endured. Randy has always been a role model to a lot of people from all walks of life. I can say even to family, Mary is my cousin, and through many a family reunions, weddings , and all sorts of drop ins, Randy & Mary have always been a couple that I have looked up to. Randy has been a great example to me of what a dad should be , all about family/ faith. Randy is home now, at peace, but will continue to show us the way to live great lives .
