Obituary of Irby Joseph Banquer

Please share a memory of Irby to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Irby Joseph Banquer, 79, passed away Tuesday, February 16th, 2022. He is preceded in death by his parents, Simon and Jennybel (Seminary) Banquer. Left to cherish Irby’s memory are his wife of 57 years, Diane (Hart) Banquer; son, Steven Banquer and wife Deanna; daughter, Beth McDonald and husband Kevin; sister, Gail Barrilleaux; grandsons, Bryan McDonald, Michael McDonald and wife Sofia, Kyle McDonald, and Tanner Banquer; along with a host of many other dear family and friends. Irby was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. At 19 years old, he met the love of his life Diane, and they were inseparable ever since. In 1960, Irby began his career in Stevedoring with Ayers Maritime Services. He would retire more than 50 years later, as the President of the same company. Undeniably, Irby left his mark on the New Orleans and Houston maritime industry. There were many accomplishments and achievements to be proud of in Irby’s life, but his greatest source of pride was being a father and grandfather. For Irby, his wife and children always came first. He was never too tired from work to make it to any event or game. No matter what, Irby would support his children and grandchildren in any endeavor. To say Irby never met a stranger would be an understatement. No matter if you had just crossed his path for a short while, or known him for years, he would show you the same love and respect either way. People were drawn to his larger-than-life personality and his generous spirit. He loved to support his family, but supporting others was also a passion of his. You could always count on Irby to give more than he took in return. Not only that, but once he gave you his word on anything, you knew that he would take care of it. Irby truly impacted the lives of everyone he met. Irby was the kind of optimistic morning person who liked to sing along to the radio even when he didn’t know the words. He had an adventurous soul, which led to a love of travelling; he was always ready to try a new adventure. On weekends in the fall, you could count on him to be cheering on his LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints. The world will be less kind without Irby in it, but still full of memories of his laughter and advice. Irby will be dearly missed by all those who knew him and loved him. In Lieu of flowers Irby’s family would like to request that donations be made in his name to the itaalk Autism Foundation, or Hope Village in Friendswood, Texas. Funeral Services for Irby will be held on Monday, February 21st, 2022, at Clayton Funeral Home. (5530 W.
