Obituary of Cosme G Gonzalez

Cosme G. Gonzalez, 93, passed away Monday, November 14, 2022. He is preceded in death by his parents Cosme and Gudelia Gonzalez; son Cosme Gonzalez III; granddaughter Lorena Gonzalez; brothers Leonides Gonzalez, Guillermo Gonzalez, Roman Gonzalez, Ovidio Gonzalez; and sisters Aurora G. Lopez, and Evangelina G. Rios. Left to cherish Cosme’s memory are his loving wife, of 67 years, Oralia Gonzalez; sons Epitacio Gonzalez, Dimas Gonzalez, Jose Guadalupe Gonzalez, Alberto Gonzalez, Juan Luis Gonzalez; daughters Sylvia Gonzalez Sanchez, Yolanda Gonzalez Salinas, Mary Gonzalez Guerrero; brother Nereo Gonzalez; sister Elvia G. Treviño; sixteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren, and a host of many other dear family and friends.

Cosme was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. He was the pillar of his family. A true patriarch and example to his family and friends. Cosme was married to the love of his life for almost 68 years. He waited for Oralia for 5 years, until she turned 20, to marry him.

To provide for his family, Cosme worked in agriculture for about 60 years. In the early 1970’s he gained legalization to work in the United States and then moved his family to Five Points, California. He lived and worked there from 1973 – 1979. In 1979, Cosme moved his family back to south Texas and he became a seasonal migrant farmworker until he retired in the mid 1990’s.

Cosme was a family man who truly adored loving his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also loved spending time with his brothers and sisters. Cosme always looked forward to and loved spending time outdoors. He enjoyed spending time at his ranch in Arcabuz, Tamaulipas, and he loved to go fishing whenever he had the chance. Cosme will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A visitation for Cosme will be held on Monday, November 21, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 West Broadway, Pearland, Texas. The funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, November 22, at 1:00 pm, at St. Helen’s Catholic Church, in Pearland, Texas, with Father Luis Garcia officiating. Interment will follow at Grand View Memorial Cemetery, in Pasadena, Texas.

Cosme G. Gonzalez, a sus noventa y tres años de edad, falleció el Lunes, 14 de Noviembre de 2022. Es precedido en su defunción por sus progenitores Cosme y Gudelia Gonzalez; su hijo Cosme Gonzalez III; su nieta Lorena Gonzalez; sus hermanos Leonides Gonzalez, Guillermo Gonzalez, Roman Gonzalez, Ovidio Gonzalez; y sus hermanas Aurora G. Lopez y Evangelina G. Rios. Para honrar su memoria, le sobreviven su amada esposa, de sesenta y siete años, Sra. Oralia L. Gonzalez; sus hijos Epitacio Gonzalez, Dimas Gonzalez, Jose Guadalupe Gonzalez, Alberto Gonzalez, Juan Luis Gonzalez; sus hijas Sylvia Gonzalez Sanchez, Yolanda Gonzalez Salinas, Mary Gonzalez Guerrero; su hermano Nereo Gonzalez; su hermana Elvia G. Treviño; dieciseis nietos; doce bisnietos y un gran número de familiares y amigos queridos.

Don Cosme fue siempre amoroso y abnegado tanto como esposo, padre, abuelo, bisabuelo y amigo. Fue el pilar de su familia. Un verdadero patriarca y ejemplo a seguir tanto para su familia y como para sus amigos. Contrajo matrimonio con el amor de su vida, cuyo enlace perduró 68 años. De hecho tuvo que esperar por 5 años hasta que la Oralia cumpliera los veinte años de edad para unirse a ella en matrimonio.

Para proveer para su familia, Don Cosme trabajó en la agricultura por cerca de sesenta años. A comienzos de los años 70’s obtuvo su permiso para trabajar legalmente en los Estados Unidos y fue entonces que se mudó a Five Points, California. Fue ahí donde vivió y trabajó entre 1973 hasta 1979. Posteriormente se mudó junto a su familia de regreso al sur de Texas donde trabajó como trabajador agricola migrante hasta jubilarse a mediados de los años 90’s.

Don Cosme fue un hombre de familia quien adoraba transmitirle todo su cariño a sus nietos y bisnietos. De igual forma le encantaba pasar tiempo con sus hermanos y hermanas. Siempre esperaba con ansias y adoraba pasar tiempo al aire libre. Disfrutaba especialmente de pasar tiempo en su rancho en Arcabuz, Tamaulipas e ir de pesca cada que tenía la oportunidad. Se le extrañará de sobremanera tanto por sus seres queridos y quienes tuvieron la oportunidad de conocerlo.

El velorio/servicio funerario se llevará a cabo el Lunes, 21 de Noviembre entre las 6pm-8pm en Clayton Funeral Home con domicilio en 5530 West Broadway, Pearland, Texas. La misa fúnebre se llevará a cabo el Martes, 22 de Noviembre a la 1pm en St. Helen’s Catholic Church en Pearland, Texas y será oficiada por el Padre Luis Garcia. El sepelio se llevará a cabo justo después de la misa en el Grand View Memorial Cemetery en Pasadena, Texas.
