Obituary of Evelyn Florence Parker
Evelyn Florence (Dobard) Parker was born on December 7, 1930 in McAllen, Texas. During her childhood Evelyn lived in the Cottage Grove neighborhood of Houston, Texas. She attended and graduated from St. Agnes Academy college preparatory School, and then attended the University of Houston. She was formerly President of Der Deutche Verein. Evelyn married the love of her life, Joseph Michael Parker, on July 21, 1951 and resided in Almeda, Texas. She worked at the Foley’s department store in downtown Houston, and various other companies until she and Joe began traveling while he was in the United States Air Force.
Evelyn was a superb homemaker. She was the most wonderful, sincere, and dedicated mother to her six children. More than anything, she enjoyed being involved in their lives. Evelyn would participate in all of their school activities, award ceremonies, was a homeroom mother for all six children, a den mother for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Brownies, Girl Scouts, and the FFA. Evelyn was also very active in the church.
Evelyn was an outgoing and adventurous soul. She enjoyed traveling all over the United States as well as around the world. Closer to home, Evelyn enjoyed outings to the Movies, surfing contests, rodeos, casinos, and the dog track. She particularly enjoyed the movie Hopalong Cassidy and it only cost a nickel. She loved to dance and listen to all kinds of music. Evelyn especially enjoyed watching the Houston Astros play. She also had a passion for gardening, and always had a variety of beautiful flowers growing in her garden. For over fifty years Evelyn never missed her weekly trip to the same hairdresser come rain or shine. Our mama was unique, and she can never be replaced.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Joseph M. Parker; parents, Andrew and Dorothy Dobard; and her brother, Andrew C. Dobard, and her sister, Katherine Dobard. Left to cherish Evelyn’s memory are her sons, Michael, David, and John Parker; daughters, Joanna Parker Huddleston, Brenda Parker Schoppa and husband Gilbert, and Suzanne Parker Andriacco; grandsons, Gordon Pranger and Joseph Andriacco and wife Shanna; great-grandsons, Tyler and Landon Andriacco; and a host of many other dear family and friends.
