Obituary of Felimar Maylas Blanco

Felimar Maylas “Monoy” Blanco, 66, passed away on April 12, 2011. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sergio and Rosario Blanco. Felimar is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Melba Blanco; son, Derrick Blanco; daughters, Denise Blanco and Donna Mae Blanco Alvior and her husband, Anthony; brother, Wilfredo Blanco and his wife, Evelyn; sisters, Severa Gelito and her husband, Jose, Elenita Blanco-Pyle and her husband, Philip, and Milagros Diocales and her husband, Antonio; as well as a host of many other family and friends.
Felimar graduated Melchor Memorial High School in 1960. He attended the University of San Augustin in Iloilo City and graduated 1966 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He was a member of USASCA, JUSMEE-USA, Tech Boys’ Club, and Epsilon Alpha Chi Fraternity during his tenure there. He immigrated to the United States in 1972 went back to the Philippines to wed his wife in 1975. Their first child was born in 1976. He returned to America and wife and son followed him in 1977. A year later, the twins were born.
He was a mechanical engineer and worked for (to name a few) Lummus, Brown & Root, Dow Chemical, Bechtel, Raytheon, and held several contract jobs in smaller companies. After his early retirement in the late 1990s, he spent almost ten years working on his website dedicated to his beloved hometown, Ibajay, Aklan in the Philippines. He kept in touch with his old friends and family for updates and provided this information on his site to fellow Ibajaynons living outside of the Philippines. In his website, he also created essay writing contests to promote and encourage the graduates of his former high school.
Visitation will be on Friday, April 15, 2011 at 6-8PM with Rosary recited at 7pm at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, TX 77581. The Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 12:30PM at St. Mark’s Evangelist Catholic Church, 5430 West Ridgecreek Drive, Houston, 77053 with Rev. Hugh Cullen officiating. Interment will be in Ibajay, Aklan , Philippines.
