The final chapter in the remarkable life story of Mae Belle Adkins was writ on February 16, 2007. She was born December 27, 1928 in Iola, Texas to Van Adkins and Myra Childress who preceded her in death. Her many accomplishments included raising a family, serving on the Texas Commission on the Status of Women and pursuing a career in accounting which she reluctantly gave up four years ago when she retired from Creative Flooring of Houston. She is survived by her brother Rev. Bruce Adkins and wife Charlane of Arizona, her son Fernando Gonzalez Adkins and wife Esmeralda of Sugar Land, her daughters Jan Chism Wright and husband David of Nebraska, Reneé McGuire and husband Mac of Pearland, Denise Yount and husband Jerry of Nebraska, her six grandchildren Alina Arguello, Carlos Arguello, Maria Gonzalez and partner Jennifer Cies, Claudia Melichar and husband Herbert, Fernando Jose Gonzalez and wife Ashley, Megan Wright and great grandson Miles Franz Melichar. She was sadly preceded in death by her son Enrique Gonzalez Adkins, her daughter Linda de Arguello, her granddaughter Carolina Gonzalez and her grandson Les Rowell, III with whom she is now happily re-united. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held on Monday, February 19th at 11:00 AM, at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, (Hwy. 518) in Pearland. The family will receive friends before the celebration from 10:00 AM until service time. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to Forgotten Angels, 7218 W. Broadway, Pearland, TX 77584.
