Obituary of Peter James Vlachos

Please share a memory of Peter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Peter James Vlachos, 81, passed away Sunday, October 26, 2023. He is preceded in death by his parents James and Lucille Vlachos; brother George Vlachos; and sister Margaret Vlachos Mann. He is survived by his son Dennis Vlachos and wife, Erica; daughter Jana McDougall; and sister Gloria Hurkett.

Peter was man of integrity who cherished his family and held pride for his country in his heart. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and is where he retired from with many years of honorable service. Peter always insured that Army recruits would live under his roof until they were deployed if they didn’t have a place to stay. His core belief was to be called a man you must take care of your responsibilities (the difference between having a job and actually going to work.) Peter was a wonderful provider for his family and always held two jobs. Every business he started was a success. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and playing blackjack in Vegas whenever he was permitted. His favorite treat was having apple pie; however, it must have sharp cheddar cheese on it. Above all else, Peter was a committed family man with intensity, passion, and a wonderful sense of humor. He was deeply loved and respected by his grandchildren, Alex, Christine, Lela, and Jack. Peter was also loved and honored by numerous other friends and relatives, including Susan Vlachos Hart, the mother of his children. Peter will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A funeral service will be held for Peter at 10:00 am, on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 West Broadway. Interment will follow at 1:30 pm gate time, at the Houston National Cemetery, In Houston, Texas.
