Wal’Dean Marie Sellers, 79, of La Porte, TX, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024 in Webster, TX.

Wal’Dean is survived by her sons, James Lundquist & his wife Bethany and Stephen Lundquist & his wife Carolyn; grandchildren Cameron, Ethan, Josie, and Elle; sisters Tracey Howard & her husband Jim and Claire Motty & her husband Andre; nieces and nephews Rick Dembrun, Rachel Hubel, Matthew Motty, Andrea Humble, and Carla Villyard.  She also leaves behind numerous cousins and grand nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Carl A. Lundquist, father Walton Sellers, and mother Vernon Sellers.   

Wal’Dean was born in Abbeville, LA to Walton and Vernon Sellers on April 9, 1944. She attended Mt. Carmel High School and graduated in 1962, after which she went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana. She worked as a teacher and librarian for La Porte High School for over 30 years before retiring in 1999. Wal’Dean married her beloved Carl in 1979 and settled into their home in La Porte, TX where she lived until she passed.  She was an adored member of the community who touched many students’ lives with her love for the French language and passion for reading.  Wal’Dean was very involved in the high school theater Department where she spent countless hours making costumes, attending practices, and cooking her famous gumbo for the kids.

Wal’Dean was also a devoted member of the Catholic church.  She was a long-time member of St. Mary’s church in La Porte and continued to volunteer and donate whatever she could to help others.  She was a dedicated mother who went above and beyond for her sons and grandchildren.  Her and Carl loved traveling across the United States, attending Astros games, and spoiling their grandchildren.  Wal’Dean had a kind and generous heart and was always grateful for the many friends she had and the time she spent with them.

Funeral service will be held at Clayton Funeral Home located at 201 S 3rd St., La Porte, TX 77571 on Tuesday, April 16th at 11:30am.  Burial will follow at Grand View Cemetery at 8501 Spencer Hwy, Pasadena TX 77505. Visitation will be held prior to the service at Clayton Funeral home from 10:30am-11:30am.

In lieu of flowers, we are asking that donations be sent to any of the many following organizations that Wal’Dean supported: St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Special Olympics, Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels, Parkinson’s Foundation, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Houston Food Bank, American Diabetes Association, ALS Association, and the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.
