Clinton Eugene Wells passed away on August 26, 2008. He is survived by his loving wife for 45 years, Shirley; sons, Richard Wells & his wife, Tina and Clinton Wells Jr. & his wife, Lily; and a host of other family and friends. Clinton was born in Forest, Ohio on August 7, 1921. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1942 at the age of 21 and was stationed in England in the 8th Air Force where he flew with The Flying Fortress of the 457th Squadron. He became the Lead Bombardier on the B-17 Bomber, “Remember Me”, flying numerous missions over Europe. Clinton was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. Many awards were bestowed upon him for his service including the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Cluster, Five Battle Stars (Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe). After the war, Clinton attended Ohio State University. He became a proud Ohio State Buckeye’s fan his entire life. Clinton had a diverse working career serving as a Paige for the Ohio State Legislature from 1941-1942, being Vice President for Texas Marine & Industrial Supply Company in Houston from the late ‘60s to the early ‘80s, serving as President of the Port of Houston in the late ‘70s, and being a Sales Consultant for GISCO, Inc. from the mid ‘80s until he passed away. Clinton and Shirley were married for 45 years. They loved spending time together golfing, traveling or sharing time with friends. Clinton was always extremely proud of his service to his country in World War II and was very proud of his two holes-in-one. Their grandchildren, as well as their entire family, brought them great joy. Visitation for Clinton will be on Friday, August 29, 2008, at 9:00 am at Clayton Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 10:00 am on Friday. The interment will take place immediately following the services at Houston National Cemetery.
