Obituary of Refugio C. "Rufus" Martinez

Refugio C. "Rufus" Martinez, a longtime resident of Pearland, passed away Monday, June 4, 2007 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Rufus was born October 17, 1932 in Brenham, Texas to the late Martin R. and Sabina Castillo Martinez. He owned and operated M and M Tractor and was a parishioner of St. Helen Catholic Church of Pearland. Rufus is survived by a loving family; his wife of 53 years, Mary Hellen Martinez; nine children, Rosie Flores and husband, Robert, Lorenzo Martinez, Freddy Martinez and wife, Linda, Richard Martinez, Sabina Morris and husband, Jerry, Terry Martinez, Pauline Martinez, Hellen Perales and husband, Andres and Ruth Partain and husband, John; sister, Josephine Almanza; 21 grandchildren, Robert, Jr., Rufus, Christina and Jessica Flores, Freddy Martinez, II, Amanda Marroquin, Tammy and Nicholas Martinez, Richard, Jr., Katie and Erik Martinez, Jeremy, Chanse and Chayse Morris, James and Charles Martinez, Adrienne, Andres, Jr. and Ryan Perales and Alissa and Bradley Partain; 23 great grandchildren, numerous other relatives and a host of friends. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, June 6, 2007, in the chapel of Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway in Pearland, where a rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM Wednesday evening. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Thursday, June 7, 2007, at St. Helen Catholic Church, 2209 Old Alvin Road in Pearland, with Msgr. Reginald R. Nesvadba as celebrant. Rite of committal will follow at Oak Park Cemetery in Alvin. Those serving as pallbearers are; Freddy Martinez, II, Richard Martinez, Jr., Robert Flores, Jr., Jeremy Morris, Andres Perales, Jr., James Martinez, Rufus Flores and Erik Martinez. Honorary pallbearers are; Charles Martinez, Ryan Perales, Bradley Partain, Chanse Morris and Chayse Morris.
