Antone “Tony” Chomenko, of Pearland, Texas, passed away just after 10:00 AM, Monday, August 13th, 2012. He was born on August 27, 1945, to Tatyana and Savelij Chomenko. He is survived by his loving wife, Gloria, whom he married on August 22, 1970. She stayed tirelessly by his side through his courageous battle with Alzheimer’s and cancer. Also surviving are his father, Savelij Chomenko, two daughters, Michelle Chomenko Dies and husband John, and Kimberly Ann Schwartz and husband Steven, and a son Christopher Ross Chomenko, all of Pearland, Texas, a brother Peter Chomenko, and two sisters Olga Kiena, and husband Boris, of Orange County, and Mary Hinckleyn and husband Greg, of Portland. Tony also left six well-loved grandchildren, Austin, Maddie, Avery, Kate, Allie, and Emily, all of Pearland,Texas. He is pre-deceased by his mother Tatyana Chomenko. Born in Germany, Tony immigrated to America with parents who were survivors of Stalin’s atrocity. His parents made their home in New Jersey, where Tony was an all-state high school athlete, excelling at several sports. He was a state champion in golf and went on to receive a full scholarship to the University of Houston. He followed his passion for golf through college, and onto the PGA tour, playing in his first tour event, The Pensacola Open in April of 1975. Tony was a former Pro at Champions Golf Club in Houston,Texas, and had a legendary taste for brightly colored clothing, and a personality to match. In later years, he founded Goldcraft Homes, and NASA Construction. Friendly, and affable, he was an avid fisherman, voracious reader, jogger, and exceptional salesman. He spent his free time with family and friends at Golfcrest Country Club for many years. The Visitation for Tony will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 17, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Clayton Funeral Home with Father David Zapalac officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
