The matriarch of a beautiful family, she was a lifelong resident of Houston, graduating from St. Agnes Academy in 1934. In her youth, she was a decorated pageant winner including her selection as May Queen at St. Agnes Academy. After High School, she met and married the love of her life Ross McBrayer, a Rice University Graduate, prior to his enlistment in the United States Air Force to serve his country in World War II.
Gloria had successful career in the banking business. She was a 40 year banker, rising through the ranks as a teller at Second National Bank, retiring in 1985 as a Vice President of Bank of the Southwest.
In retirement she loved spending time with her family and friends. Gloria courageously fought and survived two bouts of cancer and then moved in with her daughter. During that time she was a tremendous help to her daughter as a caregiver for her son in law Tony, who was battling Alzheimer’s. Well into her 95th year, she was sharp as a tack, active, and classy. She enjoyed many hobbies, which included reading, cooking, shopping at Foleys, playing slots, drinking Jack Daniels and Fresca, watching TV with her precious dog Gigi, and spending time with her precious daughter Cissy. She will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved her.
“Good bye my precious mother. I love you with all my heart.” Cissy
