Raymundo “Ray” Tays, 64, passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2013. He is preceded in death by his parents, Fernando and Ernestina Tays. Ray is survived by his loving wife of 42 years; daughters, Michele Hopkins and husband, Daryall, Jesika Caltzontint and husband, Louis; brothers, Armando, Francisco and George Tays; sisters, Juanita Ramos, Evangelina Martinez, Lupita Reyes; grandsons, Jakob and Logan Caltzontint; and a host of other family and friends. Ray started his law enforcement career as an officer for the Texas Department of Corrections for three years. He went to work for the Houston Police Department in 1974 and was awarded “Rookie of the Year.” Ray went on to have a successful career in the special operations division and the narcotics division before retiring in 2001. In his spare time, he loved spending time with his family going fishing, barbequing, playing his accordion or getting together for family gatherings. Ray also enjoyed spending time hunting with his nephew. He had a great sense of humor and was always joking around with everyone. Ray and Norma loved taking their girls camping at Brazos Bend State Park when they were growing up. He was an excellent provider and role model for his family. He was affectionately known at “Ganpa” to his grandsons. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. A visitation and service for Ray will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581. The visitation will take place from 3:00 until 5:00 pm and the funeral service will begin at 5:00 pm.
