Dennis Larry Veazey, 71, passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2013. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Grace Veazey. Dennis is survived by his daughter, Lisa Mize, and husband, Jeff; grandchildren, Mackenzie and Madison Mize; brother, Douglas Veazey and wife, Rosie; and a host of other family and friends. He was born June 25, 1941 in Denver, Colorado as the third son of Ralph and Grace Veazey who would become a pioneering family in the Sharyland community in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. At an early age Dennis became a “business man” with a mind ahead of his time; full of novel ideas to the business world of the time. He had the ability to talk to complete strangers and develop lasting friendships. As a teen, after school and weekends he worked for a nearby supermarket. This would lead to his lifelong career with Mrs. Baird’s bakeries. As a youth he was active in scouting rising in the ranks to qualify for attending the 1953 National Scouting Jamboree in Irvine, California. Dennis was also active in sports and his high school band where he was selected to perform with an elite swing band that performed the Big Band sounds from the ‘40’s. As his parents retired and aged he provided continual care for them even though he lived hundreds of miles away by making numerous trips to the Valley for their care. After his retirement, Dennis developed an interest in gardening and landscaping his home. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. A Memorial Service for Dennis will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581. The family will be receiving friends at 4:00 pm and the memorial service will begin at 5:00 pm.
