Obituary of Thomas John Clunie

Thomas “Tom” John Clunie, 72, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2013. He is preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Geraldine Clunie; and his loving wife of 40 years, Deborah Clunie. Tom is survived by his daughters, Sarah and Amy Clunie; sister, Mary Olson and her husband, Robert; nephew and Godson, Matthew Olson; niece, Laura Olson; and a host of other family and friends.
Tom was a kind and soft spoken man that always was there for his family. He coached Sarah and Amy through their many softball and soccer seasons and even tutored many of their friends in math. He was very active in Junior Achievement and took great pride in his own scholastic achievements, graduating from Northwestern University and receiving his Ph.D. from Notre Dame. His first job out of college was with Exxon as a chemical engineer; where he worked until his retirement. It was through his employment at Exxon that he met Debbie. They later married and made their home in Clear Lake. Tom was an accomplished musician and played the euphonium with “The Kilties” which is a drum and bugle corps. He was an avid supporter of DCI and looked always looked forward to the competitions with his lifelong friends from high school. He loved his family very much and his life had become a struggle since the death of the love of his life Debbie in 2010. Tom will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
A visitation for Tom will be held on Sunday evening, March 10, 2013 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581. The funeral service will take place on Monday, March 11, 2013 at Clayton Funeral Home at 12:00 pm with Pastor Keith Anderson officiating. In lieu of flowers, doinations may be made in Tom’s honor to the Evans Scholarship, 1 Briar Road, Golf, Illinois 60029.
