Edith Rose Webb Longoria was born on Monday, October 10, 1927 in Houston, Texas. She passed away on Friday, April 5, 2013 at home in Pearland, Texas. Mrs. Longoria earned her Education degree at the University of Houston. She worked 40 years in the Houston and Pearland Independent School Districts, first in the offices and then, in the classroom, teaching courses in various histories, social studies, government, and economics at Milby, Sterling and Pearland High Schools. She was a devout Christian who spent much of her life serving in numerous capacities in her church, commencing with teaching her first Sunday School class of elementary-aged boys when she was a teenager. Teaching was her calling and her passion. Mrs. Longoria was appointed and served two terms on the Board of Trustees at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas. She was a charter member of Providential Baptist Church in Pearland, Texas. Mrs. Longoria, beloved mother and friend, was a Renaissance Woman, business woman, singer, and world traveler. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pomp Lewis and Florence Edith Webb; brothers, Robert and Eugene Webb; and her beloved husband of 53 years, Wallace L. Longoria. Mrs. Longoria is survived by her daughter, Loretta Longoria-Russo and her husband, Gerhard of Pearland Texas; and by her husband’s children. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a Memorial Donation to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, P.O. Box 8433, 900 College Street, Belton, Texas 76513. A visitation and funeral service for Mrs. Longoria will be on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581. The visitation will begin at 10:00 am and the funeral service will follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Steve Daily officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
