Edith Josephine Rakestraw. 88, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2013. She is preceded in death by her parents, Clay and Verna Tracy; her loving husband of 68 years, F.I. Rakestraw; sister and brother-in-law, Fay and Bud Cannon; son-in-law, Bill Crow; and great grandson, Samuel Rakestraw Roach. Edith is survived by her sons, Ken Rakestraw and wife, Irma, Gary Rakestraw and wife, Kathy; daughters, Kathy Crow, Janet Ault and husband, Buddy; grandchildren, Mark Roach, Kevin, Brian, and Rusty Ault, Scott, Kristen, David and Hannah Rakestraw; Great Grandchildren, Cameron, Collin, Evan, Caroline and Erin Roach, Brandon, Ryan, Katie, Greta and Steven Ault; and a host of other family and friends. Edith was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Weslaco. She loved serving the Lord whether it was helping in the church kitchen or serving as the Sunday School Secretary. She worked for the John Knox Village Retirement Home for 30 years and was a hardworking and dedicated employee. Edith was affectionately known as Grandma to her grandchildren and great grandchildren and doted on them every chance that she could. She cherished spending time with her family and will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her. A Memorial Service for Edith will be held on Friday, May 24, 2013 at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church, 7401 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77024 with Pastor Dwight Martin officiating. Following the service, interment will take place at Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edith’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
