Pat E. Courtin, Jr. of Pearland Texas passed away peacefully at home with family on Wednesday, June 26th, 2013. A native Houstonian, Pat was born on November 2, 1931, to Dorothy Colby and Pat E. Courtin, Sr. He is preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, Ricky Courtin. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Pattie Courtin; five children, Cathy Derrick and husband, Rob; Pat E. “Buddy” Courtin III; Cindy Warren and husband, Mike; Louis Courtin and wife, Lisa; Dee Dee Powledge and husband, David; eight grandchildren, Patrick Courtin IV, Caleb Courtin, Robby Derrick III, Emily Courtin, Sara Courtin, Cody Courtin, Jake Derrick, Clare Courtin, and sisters Barbara Tarrant and Michelle Carpenter and a host of other family and friends. Pat was in the first graduating class of St. Vincent DePaul School and attended St. Thomas High School, graduating from Pasadena High School in 1949. He began his college career at Texas A&M University where he was a member of the Aggie Band. Pat then graduated from University of Houston in 1954, with a Bachelor of Science degree. After two years of service during the Korean War in the US Army, Pat went on to receive a Master of Education degree from Sam Houston State University in 1957. Pat’s professional career included employment with the Texas Department of Agriculture, Allied Mills, and the Farmers’ Home Administration of the USDA, where he was recognized for his exemplary performance. In 1966, Pat and his young family embarked on Foreign Service in Sousse, Tunisia, where he taught Agricultural Economics at Chott Maria University. Returning to the US in 1968, Pat accepted a position with Butler Manufacturing and settled in Pearland, Texas. During his tenure at Butler, Pat was honored as master salesman and Cup Club recipient on numerous occasions. Pat’s interest ranged from bronco and bull riding to gun-making and woodworking. Pat was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to hunt and fish. His trophy mule deer was recognized by the Boone and Crocket Club. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr Mahendra Jain and Monica Lejune for their continual compassionate care, as well as to The Hospice Care Team of Lake Jackson, especially Rhonda Smith, RN, and Robert Green, CHPNA. Pop, you are the best dad and grandfather ever! Your legacy will live on through your family and friends who love you so much. The family will receive friends Monday, July 1, 2013 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm with a Vigil beginning at 7:00 pm at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at 11:00 am at St. Helen Catholic Church, 2209 Old Alvin Road, Pearland, Texas 77581. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception and lunch to be held in the adjacent Helena Hall. The family will gather for a private interment at Resurrection Cemetery later.
