Obituary of John Wesley Odom

John Wesley Odom III, 67, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2013. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Wesley II and Mary Elizabeth Odom. John is survived by his loving wife, Phylis Hazel; daughter, Tamara Michelle Bachman and husband, Matthew Alan; Tamara’s mother, Bobbie Velasco; sister, Charlotte Wall and husband, Jerry; grandson, Dylan Matthew Bachman; a host of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
John had a successful career as a Director of Human Resources with Houston, Lighting and Power for 25 years and with M.D. Anderson Cancer Center for 15 years. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. John was an avid sports fan that loved following his Houston Texans and University of Houston Cougar football teams. He and Phylis enjoyed traveling and were especially partial to their many cruise ship experiences. John had a very generous and caring nature and always welcomed family and friends into his home for gatherings, holidays and barbecues. He will forever be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, his love of history and the History channel, old movies and his NCIS television show. John was affectionately known as “Granddad” to his grandson and could be found on the sidelines cheering on Dylan during all of his games. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
A visitation for John will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2013 from 3:00 until 5:00 pm at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581. The funeral service will be held on Monday, September 16, 2013 at 10:00 am at Clayton Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Alvin Confederate Cemetery in Alvin, Texas.
