Max Arnold Bennett, 71, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Florence Bennett Sr.; and brother in law, George Townsley. Max is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Betty Bennett; brothers, Carl Bennett Jr. (Mildred). Bruce Bennett (Melanie), Herman Bennett (Marie); one precious sister, Laverne Townsley; children, Kenny, Daune (Tiffany) and Christina (Brian); stepchildren, Chad (Tami), Heather (Vernessa) and Kelli (Chris); grandchildren, William, Avery, Alyssa, Savhanna, Cole, Dalton, Cadence, Reid, Kendall and Calli; and a host of other family and friends. He lived in League City but his heart was in his home town of Merryville, Louisiana where he was raised until moving to Texas. After graduating from Merryville High School, he attended McNeese in Lake Charles. He left McNeese and spent 4 years serving his country in the United States Air Force on Mid Way Island. Max was a great man who loved life and life loved Max. He enjoyed being with people and was always the life of the party, and had friends wherever he went. Max was well schooled in the art of dancing, which he said his Momma taught him. He was always well dressed and not a hair out of place. With all of these qualities and his striking good looks, he never had a problem filling his dance card. He retired from Geon Chemical and had many lifelong friends. Max was gentle, sweet and loving to everyone and will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Max’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org. A visitation for Max will be held on Friday, January 17, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581. A visitation and funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Calvary Baptist Church, 424 Highway 111, Merryville, LA 70654. The visitation will begin at 1:00 pm and the service will follow at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Cannon Cemetery in Merryville, Louisiana.
