Obituary of Fredie Joe Downs

Fredie Joe Downs, 73, of Manvel, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2014. He is preceded in death by his parents, Fredrick and Hollene Downs; and sister, Francine McNett. Fredie is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Beverly Downs; son, Jody Downs and wife, Gina; daughter, Lori Downs Kluesner and husband, Jamie; grandchildren, Jaden Downs, and Tripp Kluesner; and a host of other family and friends. Fredie was a hard worker and great provider for his family, working for 30 years with the Houston Chronicle. He was very knowledgeable on many topics and would love to talk and share stories. Fredie especially enjoyed doing crosswords puzzles and researching genealogy. He was affectionately known as “Papaw” and Granddad and cherished spending time with his family. Fredie will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fredie’s honor to Calvary Baptist Church at 3302 County Road 89, Pearland, Texas 77584. A visitation and funeral service for Fredie will be held on Monday, February 3, 2014 at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581 with T.L. “Bud” Edmonds and Steve Lee officiating. The visitation will begin at 2:00 pm and the funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm. Interment will take place in their family plots in Dundee, Texas at a later time.
