Obituary of Donald Joe Spears

Donald J. Spears passed away on Monday, August 18, 2014. Don was born on the 28th of April, 1927, in Corsicana, Texas, son of Thelma J. and F.H. (Jake) Spears. Don grew up in the Houston area, graduated from Reagan High School, attended Rice University prior to enlisting in the US Navy at the age of 17, served in the Navy as Aviation Machinist’s Mate during World War II and the Korean War, and graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Science degree. Don is preceded in death by his parents, sister and grandson, Thelma J. and F.H. (Jake) Spears, Beverly Duvall Stallcup, and Edward L. Koslosky, Jr. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Linda; his daughter Sandra Jo Siddall; his son Robert (Dusty) W. Spears; his step-daughter Jennifer Lynn Webb and husband, J. Kiley Webb; his grandson Donald Frank Koslosky and wife Cathe; his great-grandson Christopher L. Koslosky; his great-grandson Edward (Eddie) L. Koslosky III and wife Christi; step-grandson and step-granddaughter Dylan Kiley Webb and Grace Lynn Webb. He is also survived by nieces Gwen Gough, and husband, Don; Patsy Ann Farrar; Becky Heeney and husband, Neil; Jean Haden and nephews Albert Bacarrisse and wife Bettie; Jerry Bacarrisse and wife Mary Beth; Lester Bacarrisse; and Ross Lynn Leone. Don’s career included successful years in sales and sales management with Carnation Milk, Consolidated Building Products, Honeywell Computers, Singer Computers, Burroughs/Graphic Sciences and Hughes Offshore. Don loved the great outdoors and enjoyed boating, hunting and fishing in the areas around Houston and Galveston. Don treasured the many friendships he made over the years, including time as a member of the Lakewood Yacht Club in Seabrook: boating, playing tennis and attending varied social activities. His most recent years in Pearland offered a beautiful view of nature through the back windows of his home, which provided much pleasure for Don. At all times, Don cared deeply for his many pets who were treated royally and were always a major part of his life. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at The Methodist Hospital for their kindness and care of Don in his final days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Society, the American Heart Association, or to the charity of your choice. A Memorial Service for Don will be held on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at ­­­­­­­­2:00 pm at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581 with Pastor Keith Anderson officiating.
