My heart is broken along with yours. My deepest concolences to the family. I met Audean (as she insisted we call her, she would always say that Dr. was over-rated) I met her in the late 1980’s when I worked for Harris County CETA Program. Audean and Doug were instrumental in putting many economically disadvantaged kids to work during the summer, I was the counselor to those kids. Audean would bake cookies for the kids and their parents (that was her way of getting the parents to the meetings so that she could educate the parents on how to get involved and stay involved with their kids long term education goals) She was loving and genuine. She taught me so much about putting others first and about not taking myself seriously. Doug was a comedian and would always make us laugh, she was the serious one and always encouraged us to continue our education but also to give to those who were less fortunate and to never forget were we came from. I loved these two wonderful people and admired them from the first day I met them. As time went by, I moved on to other jobs, (with Audean and Doug as my personal references!) but kept in touch with Audean for many years, unfortunately, we eventually lost touch. I am sadden beyond words to hear of her passing and to learn that Doug has also left us. I want to thank her children and grand-children for sharing this beaufiful and awesome human beign with the rest of us, she not only touched our lives, she changed them!
