Norbert Frank Wollney, Sr., 74, passed away Friday, June 12, 2015. He is preceded in death by his mother, Irene Kotara Wollney and step-father, Richard Robert Wollney. Norbert is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Betty Jean Bonewitz Wollney; sons, Norbert “Bert” Frank Wollney, Jr. and wife, Rene, Robert Glen Wollney and wife, Lauri; daughter, Pamela Jean Wollney Walston and husband, John; brother, Richard Wollney and wife, Darlene; sisters, Dorothy Bonewitz and husband, William, Carolyn Wollney, grandchildren, Crystal Peters and husband, Chris, Lindsey Walston, Mark Edward Norbert Walston, Robert “Glen” Wollney II, Caitlin Wollney, Saydi Wollney and Robin Wollney; and a host of other family and friends. Norbert was truly the patriarch of his family and loved them dearly. Norbert enjoyed old country music and even started his own band named the South Texas Crystals with his two sons. As his grandchildren grew up and started to play softball and baseball, he became extremely involved at Pearland Little League because of his love for his family. In the early days, practice fields were scarce so he took it upon himself to build his own fields and batting cages on his property. Norbert always loved tractor work and even in his later years could be found on the tractor tilling his garden, mowing grass, or spreading rocks in his driveway. As time passed and he became sick, he still found a way to be involved in the kids’ life any way he could. Norbert taught the grandkids how to make his treasured dumplings; played multiple rounds of dominoes, always looked forward to his gambling trips, and became a self-proclaimed “field supervisor” for his daughter Pam’s real estate company. Norbert was strong in his faith and loved the Lord. He modeled his life after the principles of being generous and helpful to all in need. Norbert believed the most important thing was to love and respect one another. He was never afraid of a challenge or a project that he decided to take on. Norbert will forever be remembered for his love for people, his fun-loving nature and his amazing ability to always cheer people up. He never met a stranger and made friends wherever he went. Norbert will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. A visitation and rosary for Norbert will be held Sunday, June 14, 2015 from 3:00 until 6:00 pm, with the Rosary recited at 3:00 pm at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581. The funeral mass will be held Monday, June 15, 2015 at 1:00 pm at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 7955 Real Road, San Antonio, TX 78263 with Father Tom Ponzini officiating. Interment will follow at St. Jerome Catholic Cemetery.
