Leroy Albert Wendorf, 88, went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 28, 2009. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Ruby I. Wendorf; his children, Carol Klappenbach & her husband Richard, Janis Pulliam & her husband Harry, and Mark A. Wendorf & his wife Dawn; grandchildren, Justin Wendorf & his wife Elise, Kathryn, Daniel and Bryan Pulliam; sister, Ruth Burkhardt & her family; and numerous other nieces and nephews. Leroy was born in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin on June 24, 1920 to Walter and Lydia Wendorf. He graduated from Wauwatosa High School and proudly served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps and Wisconsin Air National Guard during World War II. He met the love of his life, Ruby, while stationed in San Antonio, Texas, and married her on November 1, 1942. Together, they raised three children and Leroy was a loving and devoted husband and father. He retired from Texaco Oil Company after thirty-four years of loyal service. He loved God and was active in the Lutheran church throughout his life serving in numerous positions including Elder and Congregational President. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Kamal Hirani and Dr. Christopher Lockhart for their compassionate care and to the staff of Holly Hall Retirement Community and Resolutions Hospice for their loving care and support of both Leroy and his family. Visitation for Leroy will be on Monday, February 2, 2009 beginning at 9:00 am with a Funeral Service at 10:00 am in the Clayton Chapel. Pastor Larry Schlomer will be officiating. Interment will immediately follow at 11:45 am at Houston National Cemetery in Houston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Leroy’s name to Holly Hall Retirement Community, 2000 Holly Hall, Houston, Texas 77054, 713-799-9031.
