John William Slack, 85, passed away July 24, 2016. John is preceded in death by his parents, John and Rose Hradek Slack and son, John W. Slack Jr. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Muriel Smith Slack; sons, Gerard Slack, Daniel Slack, wife Desiree, and David Slack; grandsons, Jeremy, Paul and Andrew Slack; and a host of other family and friends.
John was a good provider, loving husband, and a wonderful father to all his boys. He enjoyed coaching his boys’ little league teams and being involved in their activities while growing up. John had a long and successful 41 year career with the Public Works Department at the Village of Northbrook, Illinois. After retirement, he and Muriel loved going on cruises and traveling all over the world. They both loved living in Country Place and especially enjoyed all the wonderful friends they have made over the years. John remained active in many activities and made so many people feel welcome who came to live in Country Place. John always had a servant’s heart. He enjoyed doing for others through his community service and volunteer work. John remained strong in his faith throughout his life. He was known to his grandsons as “Popie,” which took a while to grow on John, but he eventually came to love it. John will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.
