I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Betty! I have such wonderful memories teaching with her at Cavanaugh Elementary in Lansing, MI so many years ago! She was always such a warm and positive person! My thoughts and prayers are with her family during the sad time!

Betty was more than a colleague while teaching at Cavanaugh Elementary, she was a mentor to me and others she taught alongside with. Betty was warm, kindhearted and fun to be around. She was leader at school and served as our representative locally and nationally in our teacher union MEA and NEA. We were so sad when she retired and moved away but felt blessed and inspired from the impact she made on our lives.

Betty was an excellent teacher caring for and respecting her students. She had high expectations and made all children feel they could succeed. Her delightful sense of humor and quick laugh made her enjoyable to be around and she shared that humor and laughter with her students. Anyone who worked with her knew she was an outstanding educator who followed the curriculum and spent time with those students needing extra help while providing enriching activities for those needing a challenge. I always admired how professional, kind and accomplished she was.

We enjoyed our time with Betty at the 2016 Murphy Family Reunion. We thank God for the time we shared with her. We are praying for the family and asking that the Lord be with you- holding you in His embrace, comforting and strengthening you.

I am having a difficult time putting into words how devestated I was to learn of the passing of our beloved Betty. She was such an important part of the Sam Murphy side of the family. She was the glue that connected all of the different families. She and Larry were road warriors logging many miles driving all over the country visiting the families and updating us all on the familial goings on! She had a great sense of humor and always had great stories to tell. She loved God, her family both immediate and extended as well as her friends. She was a wonderful example of a Godly woman as well as an example of God’s unconditional love. She was one of a kind and was greatly loved and will be missed dearly!

I am deeply saddened at the recent passing of my loving Cousin Betty. She was my mom, Ernestine Thompson's first cousin, and the glue that connected my family, the Thompsons, to the Sam Murphy side of the family many years ago. She and Larry with the kids Ron and Terri faithfully visited us in Indianapolis year after year at Easter, and I am so grateful for the wonderful memories we have of those visits. Betty will be dearly missed. She is now in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, which gives us joy and great hope!
