Charles Shoemaker

Obituary of Charles Nolan Shoemaker

Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Charles Nolan Shoemaker was called home to his Lord and Savior, on January 19, 2018. Charles was born February 2, 1958 to parents Nolan and Celeste Shoemaker in Houston, TX.

On September 8, 1984 Charles married the one his soul loved, Sally Burnett, and they were happily married for 33 years. Charles and Sally proudly raised their five children together. Charles was a jack of all trades, talented in wood working, welding, photography, and could fix anything. He enjoyed reading, education, fishing, hunting, and spending time in nature with his family.

During his life, Charles served as a volunteer Houston and Pasadena Firefighter, as well as a paramedic for the cities of Pasadena and Baytown. In 1989, Charles began work for KBR. Since 1995, he has worked in Houston, Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq, and Bahrain as a Health, Safety, and Environmental Manager and Paramedic. In 2002, Charles earned his Bachelor of Business Management Degree from Letourneau University and graduated Summa Cum Laude while working full time and raising a family.

Charles touched the lives of many and leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love. He always extended love, generosity, a listening ear, and Biblical wisdom to those with which he came into contact. He was never short on stories from overseas experiences, fire and paramedic calls, or brain twisting riddles.  Charles will be remembered best for three qualities: his deep love for the Lord, love for family and friends, and passion for his career.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Nolan Shoemaker and Celeste Shoemaker, his father and mother-in-law, Tommy and Billie Burnett, and brother-in-law, Dave Collins. Charles is survived by his wife, Sally, and children: Rachel and husband, Josh, Michael and spouse, Emilie and their children, Cade and Mercee, John and spouse, Katlin, Rebecca, and Emily; sister, Karen Garcia and husband, Phillip; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The Shoemaker family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Craig Gray for his help and support during this difficult time.

The Memorial Service will take place Friday, January 26, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Deer Park First Baptist Church, 438 E. 8th Street, Deer Park, Texas 77536.  Charles will be laid to rest at Greenbriar Cemetery in Madisonville, Texas.
