Stephen “Steve” Wayne Wheeler, age 66 of Pearland, passed away on January 16, 2010, following a brief illness. Steve was a loving and devoted son, husband, father and brother. He is survived by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. H.G. Wheeler; his wife, Debbie (Sharpe) Wheeler; son, Joey Bartlett; daughters, Stephanie Hill & her husband Don, Amanda Riese & her husband Leigh, and Ashley Marquez & her husband Jason; brother, Mike Wheeler & his wife Pat; sister, Kay Scroggins & her husband Bill; grandchildren, who lovingly referred to him as Paw Paw; Anna, Philip & Jude Riese, Chris, Josh, Caitlyn & Lorelei Marquez, Corinne Hill; and many nieces and nephews.
Steve was born on February 24, 1943 in Orange, Texas and resided in the Pearland/Alvin area for more than 35 years. His second love, after his family, was teaching, and he spent 37 years in the Biology Department at Alvin Community College as a professor and administrator. After retiring in August 2009, Steve looked forward to spending quiet time on Lake Livingston, traveling, playing golf, and enjoying time with his grandchildren. Steve will be fondly remembered for his warm heart, quick wit and dry sense of humor. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
A celebration of Steve’s life will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at 10:00 am in the Clayton Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Amyloidosis Research at Mayo Clinic, Department of Development, Mayo Clinic, 200 1st Street SW, Rochester, MN 55905.
