Obituary of Shirley Ann Ragin

Shirley Ann Ragin, 67, of Houston, Texas, passed away on October 9, 2018. She was the devoted wife of Willie A. Ragin for 47 years and the mother of four children that she nurtured, encouraged and loved with all her heart.

Born in Macon, Georgia, Shirley graduated from Wewahitcha High School, Class of ’69, and Florida A&M University, Class of ’74. During college, she was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. Shirley started her teaching career in Florida and, after moving to Texas, went on to teach for Pasadena ISD, Clear Creek ISD, and Deer Park ISD for many years. She was a passionate and influential teacher who impacted many students. She enjoyed taking photos, traveling, cruising, and spending time with family and friends. Shirley was adventurous with a larger than life personality who never met a stranger. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lucille Collins Rouse and Rev. James A. Rouse, Sr and brothers, James A. Rouse, Jr. and Jimmy L. Rouse. Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband Willie A. Ragin; sons, Brian Ragin, Anthony Ragin; daughters, Kesha Ragin, Cassandra Yvette Grace (Kristopher); grandchild, Peyton Grace; brothers, John D. Rouse (Patricia), Christopher A. Rouse (Cheryl); sisters, Eva Kendrick (Ezel), Jannie R. Beverly (Forrest), Margie Rouse and Brenda J. Rouse. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, host of dear friends, her beloved dog, Jake, to cherish her memories.

Memorial donations can be made to the American Heart Association in Shirley’s honor or floral tributes may be sent to Clayton Funeral Home.

A memorial service for Shirley will be held at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581, on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at 10:00 am.
