I have known Pareng Mando since our high school days. A very handsome young man with quiet manners, he was accepted in our “barkada” although we were a year ahead. If he enjoyed casinos, then I believe he hit the biggest jackpot when he won Joy, my dearest friend, in marriage. A very caring family man, he took a momentous decision to come over to the USA to better provide for his growing family. His first few years in Houston was tough emotionally because he was so homesick and missed Joy and the children. I remember him calling overseas and spending hours speaking with Joy to ease his loneliness. His telephone bills were staggering. This was of course before viber, Facetime, FB and messenger. He told me his dream was to build a house for Joy and his children. He accomplished this. Together with Joy, they raised 4 upstanding children, their pride and joy. Among his many friends Pareng Mando was well loved. He was thoughtful and always ready to help. I’ll always remember how he baby sat Michelle on a short notice when Ferdie had to go to work and Inay and I was at the doctor’s office. And when he cooked “tulingan” because I said it was my favorite. Little things like these are forever embedded in my memory. You will be missed but we hold on to our Christian faith that our Lord Jesus is preparing a room for you in His Father’s house.

My childhood memories of Ninong Mando was seeing him in P. Florentino during his visit. A handsome and kind man as how my papa describes him. He went to the U.S. while i was young, but I've known him through my papa's stories as his side-kick, bestfriend, comrade, he is not just his cousin but a brother to him. Papa and ninong mando spent so much time together during HS days in Manila. He mentioned that back in the days that when you see them together, expect that they are planning to do "kalokohan". We grew up hearing these stories from my papa and Everytime he tells a story about ninong, he shows a different kind of happiness and excitement and you'd think it only happened yesterday. This year, we didn't miss the chance to see him and God is so good for giving our family that opportunity last May in Quezon. To my excitement, I asked him to give me his old photo and personal message on it. He managed to sign though it was not easy for him and i truly appreciate that. I admire the relationship that papa and ninong have built through the years and we are truly saddened by our loss. Ninong, You and I are both in the hospital at the same time before this happened and i knew about it only yesterday. We were both struggling to live that time.. I know you are with me that time Ninong.. But I know that you are more happy and at peace now. No more pain or suffering. We Love you po and we will miss you a lot.. God bless you on your journey to heaven. I am sending my Angels to watch over you. Please whisper my prayers to Jesus.

My deepest sympathy to the Villanueva family. The death of a loved one is so hard to bear. At Ps. 34:18 our heavenly Father lovingly assures us that he "is close to the brokenhearted." May you also find comfort in his promise to resurrect your dear loved one back to life. ( John 5:28, 29 )
