Obituary of Sonya Marchelle Prince
Sonya Marchelle Prince, 45, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2019.
Sonya was born on March 7, 1974, to Marsha and Robert Prince, in Webster, Texas. At an early age, Sonya discovered her passion for reading—she especially enjoyed reading novels. She carried her love of reading and language into adulthood, and in December of 2005, she graduated from Midwestern State University with a Bachelor of Arts in English. In April 2006, Sonya became a professor in the College Preparatory department at San Jacinto College-South. In May 2008, she earned her Master of Arts in English Language and Literature from the University of Houston-Clear Lake.
At the time of her passing, Sonya was in the process of writing a dissertation to obtain her doctorate degree. She was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Sonya loved education, and she had a passion for helping children and young adults pursue their dreams. Sonya was an active member for ten years of the New Covenant Christian Church, and she spent much of her time volunteering there. Sonya led the church’s education department. She also hosted college days at her church, which gave many young people the opportunity to obtain first-hand information about different colleges. Sonya not only tutored students at her church and San Jacinto College-South, but she also helped students obtain their GED’s, apply for college, and obtain grants and scholarships to make college admission and attendance a reality.
When Sonya was not working or serving others, she loved to spend time reading, cooking, and traveling. Above everything, though, Sonya loved her son, Chandler. She adored him and truly treasured every journey on the path of motherhood.
Sonya is preceded in death by her father, Robert Prince. Left to cherish her memory are her mother, Marsha Prince; son, Chandler Jackson; sister, Shawna Prince; nephew, Davion Perry; and a host of other family and dear friends. Sonya will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
The Prince family would like to thank Spirit of Life Ministries, New Covenant Christian Church, Clayton Funeral Home, family, and friends for all their support during this time.
