Obituary of Anthony Abokiamwen Akuete

Please share a memory of Anthony to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Anthony Abokiamwen Akuete was born on June 1st, 1954, in Uromi. He was the first born and son to Mr. Godfrey Odigie Akuete and Late Mrs. Victoria Nary Akuete (Nee Ibhade).

Tony dedicated 25 years of his life to be a Counselor and Case Manager with The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD formerly known as MHMRA.

Apart from his career he loved so much, Tony also had the love for, and of, family. He fell in love with and married his beautiful wife – Doris and they had a beautiful and vivacious daughter; Nicole. He was a fun guy who played soccer in his youth and enjoyed watching soccer games, as well as basketball. CNN News was also one of his favorite things to watch on TV, so much so that his wife and daughter created an extra living room area to accommodate the viewing of other channels for their pleasure. Tony loved family road trips, entertaining guests, dancing privately and singing in the shower. He was alive in every sense of the word.

Anthony was a man of Faith who loved God. He showed love to all he met and promoted peace wherever he went. He was a very principled man and placed great premium on his community and heritage. He was an active member on the boards of The Uromi Sons and Daughters and The United Esan Organization in Houston, Texas.

Anthony lived every day with a grateful heart. He spent quality time with his family and enjoyed working on his cars. He extended his love to his friends and relatives on birthdays, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, at Christmas, or “just because it’s Wednesday”.

He lived an exemplary life of “Live, Laugh and Love” and taught us a very great lesson which is summarized by these words: life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we react to it.

Tony was an exemplary man and he will be missed by all. May his loving soul rest in perfect peace.
