Carl Vernon Halik, 79, a lifelong resident of Pearland, Texas passed away Friday, March 13, 2020. He was preceded in death by parents, Vernon and Deckla Halik and brother, Douglas Halik. Left with cherished memories are his loving wife of 54 years, Paula Halik; daughters, Jobie Flowers, Tiffany Halik; brother, C. J Halik; sister, Alice Gehring; grandchildren, John Clark, Taylor Dyson, and a host of other family and dear friends.
Carl was a devoted husband, loving father, and grandfather. He cherished his friends and family, and was the most selfless and giving person; always putting the needs of others ahead of his own. He believed in giving back to his community and supported many charitable organizations over the years.
Carl graduated from Pearland High School in 1958. He attended Sam Houston State University, where he graduated with an accounting degree in 1965. Carl proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for six years. He was president and owner of Iberia Management Systems, Inc., a company Carl founded in 1992, which specializes in oil and gas revenue distribution and division order services.
Carl was very active in many civic and church activities in Pearland. He was the president of the Pearland City Charter Review Committee. He was a lifetime member of the Pearland 100 Club and served on their Bord of Directors, as well as the vice president for five years. Carl served on the Board of Trustees for the Pearland Independent School District from 1987 to 1993, and he held the office of both vice president and president during that time. He was a director of the Pearland Drug Attitude Committee and a Chairman of Project Graduation for Pearland High School.
Carl was a man of faith and belonged to St. Helen’s Catholic Church where he served as a lecturer and eucharistic minister. He was a member of the Parish Council, serving as their president, and was also the president of St. Helen’s Men’s Club. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus Council 8960.
Carl didn’t have many hobbies. Most people would consider him a workaholic with the number of hours he spent working but he honestly loved what he did, and his work ethic was beyond reproach. His company, clients, and employees meant the world to him, and he was still working daily at the age of 79. Carl always loved to fish, as well as making a trip to Coushatta to gamble with his wife and friends when he could get away for the weekend. Lastly, he loved his Astros, and he would be so proud that they made it to the World Series yet again. Carl will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial mass for Carl Halik will be held on Friday, November 19, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. Helen Catholic Church, 2209 Old Alvin Rd, Pearland, Texas 77581.
