I first met Phil Hopkins in 1963 in the offices of Sverdrup and Parcel in St. Louis, MO. Phil was a great mentor for a young engineer just finding his way in the field of engineering. He was also a great teacher. On one privite tour of the Anheuser-Busch Brewery in St. Louis he gave me a great foundation in brewery construction and operation. I last met him in the middle of an intersection in downtown Washington, D.C. where he was directing delivery of concrete sixty feet down to the floor of a new subway station. He was hard to miss! Two years later I replaced him on the subway project so he could go to a brewery construction project in Albany, N.Y. Before he left he gave me a valuable education on the subway project and what I needed to watch out for during the next two years of construction.
Phil was a great guy; mild mannered, patient and a lot of fun to be with.
Rest in peace, Phil.

I’m blessed to have gotten a chance to catch up with Uncle Phil at a family reunion in 2009. It was especially meaningful in that my son Nicholas, a budding genealogist who never got a chance to meet any of his great-grandparents, got to meet both Uncle Phil and his brother Uncle Jim, brothers of Nick’s Great-Grandmother Mary Jane Taylor. Uncle Phil was a great man with a great sense of humor. I already miss his e-mails!

Phil was also known as “Tiny” around the Sverdrup Saint Louis office. The man sure could fill a doorway. He was one one of the most mild mannered men I have ever known and was respected by all his co-workers. May God bless Phil and all the family.

I met Phil Hopkins for the first time in Stillwater, Oklahoma. I remember he had a nice motor cycle which I admired very much.
Phil annd I drove to work together when he lived in Bridgeton.
Peace!
