Obituary of Walter Ronald Bartel
Walter Ronald Bartel, 63, passed away at his home on Saturday, July 16, 2022, after bravely battling a long-term illness. He was surrounded by his wife and family.
Walter was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, friend, teacher, and mentor. He was the rock of his family, always providing unconditional love, sound advice, and whatever was needed. He loved time spent with his family and he especially cherished his grandchildren, his dog Miranda, and Cydney’s dog Pixie.
A registered professional engineer. Walter was a proud graduate of the University of Houston. He was president and served for many years on the board of directors of CNP’s University of Houston Alumni Association. Walter also was a Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo life member and volunteer for twenty-five plus years. He was an active volunteer in many programs. You always knew you could count on Walter as a volunteer.
He was a longtime, dedicated member of the CenterPoint Energy team. Earlier this year, Walter celebrated his 30-year anniversary with the company. Most recently, he led a team with responsibilities for project scheduling, engineering design, material planning, and budget management functions for substation and transmission projects. Previously, Walter’s positions included Director, Project Engineering, and Director, Grid Performance and Reliability. He always made time to support a colleague with an issue or challenge, and his recommendations helped pave the way to smart solutions.
In his spare time, Walter loved hunting, fishing, Nascar, and Westerns. He enjoyed time spent at the ranch in Llano, Texas, and fishing in Rockport. He also loved playing dominoes with the “Old Codgers”, and spending time with his grandchildren. Walter will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Walter is survived by his parents Walter Russell and Peggy Bartel; loving wife Robin Bartel; son Randy Bartel and wife, Deana; daughters Paige James and husband, Jonathan, Logan Anderson and husband, Aaron, Cydney White; brothers Todd Bartel, Greg Bartel; grandchildren Rhyder, Aleigh, Hunter, Mika, Andy, Zachary, and a host of many other dear family and friends.
