Obituary of Judy Faye Berry

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Judy Berry 95 of Lomax, Texas. Born to Ladie Yates Shireman and Wayne Shireman on July 7, 1929, in their family home. Judy was welcomed by three sisters and was the last of the tribe to pass away. 

She is predeceased by her parents; sisters, Eddie Dorrel, Myrt Nelson, and Jennie Reid; husband, Quinton berry; and daughter Pastor Patti Armstrong. Left to honor her life are Dukie the pug; son, Joe Berry and wife Lisa; nieces, Susan Hoots and Cindy Rohe; three grandchildren, Quinton Berry, Stephen Armstrong, and Patrick Armstrong; four great grandchildren will also miss her presence.

In her youth, Judy could often be found riding her horse and helping in her parent's general store in the heart of Lomax. While Judy was the little sister and the last of the Shireman clan, she always kept family first and would step up to keep things together. As one of her sisters became deathly ill, she never wavered to take care of her. As her daughter was also near death, she stayed and cared for her during the day when the family was in school and work, always committed to the task.

Judy taught science at the old intermediate building and then moved on to high school chemistry. Even after retirement, she still volunteered to help in the early mornings. Judy was always proud to see past students come back to La Porte as teachers. Her parents worked hard to send all four of their girls to college, and all were involved in teaching. Judy graduated from LPHS and was class valedictorian. She then spent her college freshman year at North Texas Women's University in Denton, and graduated from Sam Houston State teachers' college. She later obtained her master's degree in chemistry from UHCL. While teaching chemistry, Judy was the National Honor Society sponsor as well. Evenings found her at the varsity home games and theater productions taking up tickets, always supporting LPHS.

After retirement Judy and her husband could often be found in the yard displaying colorful flower beds and several times wining yard of the month. Judy and family had some amazing vacations, seeing Expo 67 in Montreal, Canada, the east coast, of Washington D.C., Chicago, Springfield Illinois, Mt. Vernon, Montecillo and many others. On the west coast they saw Mt. Rushmore, The Grand Canyon, Los Angles, Knotts berry farm, Disney Land, San Francisco, and the sequoias and Yosemite Forest among others. Camping would find the family in an Airstream trailer enjoying the USA and all she had to offer. Judy and Quinton quite often enjoyed dinner at Luby', often running into old friends. 

 As many great memories were recalled, Judy knew that time on earth was sliding away as it does, she accepted what God had planned and drifted off to join her joyful family in Heaven.

Services for Judy will be Thursday September 26, at the Clayton Funeral Home Chapel
