Juan Macias Vega, 77, passed away on March 14, 2012. He is preceded in death by his parents, Refugio and Augustina Vega Mora; brothers, Guadalupe and Petronilo Vega; sisters, Maria De la Luz Moreno and Maria Del Carmen Charqueno. Juan is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Juana Vega; sons, Carlos Vega and wife, Yolanda, Roberto Vega and wife, Lydia and Hector Vega; brother, Jesus Vega, sister, Maria Gregoria Ferretiz; grandchildren, Jimmy C. Vega, Victoria D. Vega, Rolando E. Vega, Rene I. Vega, Clarissa E. Vega, Ashley M. Vega, Christina N. Vega, Joseph A. Vega; great grandchild, Jovanni M. Vega; and a host of other family and friends. From a very young age, Juan developed a strong work ethic. He worked in various jobs to help provide for his family. Later in his life he dedicated himself to reporting news at Spanish newspapers, El Sol and La Voz. He not only received many awards for his journalism but also became well-known and respected by his peers. Juan’s second love, after Juana, was his guitar and he was a gifted composer of many songs. He was also instrumental in starting the Spanish Choir at St. Helen Catholic Church, which he led as Choir Director for more than 25 years. Juan was a devoted family man that cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. The visitation for Juan will be held on Sunday, March 18, 2012 from 3:00 until 8:00 pm with a Rosary recited by Deacon Cruz Trujillo at 7:00 pm at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581. The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 19, 2012 at St. Helen Catholic Church, 2209 Old Alvin Road, Pearland, Texas 77581 with Father Reginald Nesvadba officiating. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery in Pearland.
