Obituary of Charles Edwin Long

Charles Edwin “Chuck” Long, 79, passed away on September 4, 2012. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Dora Long; brothers, E.L. Long, and Wayne Long; sister, Donna Bristow. Chuck is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Long; son, Ken Long and wife, Jenna; daughter, Lisa Long DeHoyos and husband, David; sisters, Delores Stevenson, Mary Borm and husband, Alfred, Ida Munday; grandchildren, Michael Bates, Charles Bates, Reagan Long, and Berkeley Long; and a host of other family and friends.
Chuck was born and raised in Pearland, graduating from Pearland High School in 1951. He was a patriotic American who served proudly in the United States Marine Corps, after graduation. Chuck returned from service and attended the University of Houston where he received a degree in Engineering. He went on to become a registered Professional Engineer and worked for ITT Barton until his retirement in 1998. Chuck married his childhood sweetheart, Peggy and they spent 58 wonderful years together. Family and faith was always extremely important to Chuck and he was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church. He and Peggy were original members of the Pearland Historic Society. Chuck was always good at working with his hands and enjoyed making many woodworking projects around his home. He also leaves behind his cherished 1979 Chevy El Camino. Chuck will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Chuck’s honor to the First United Methodist Church of Pearland at www.fumcpearland.org or the charity of your choice. A visitation for Chuck will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, TX 77581. The funeral service will be held on Friday, September 7, 2012 at 10:00 am at First United Methodist Church, 2314 North Grand Blvd., Pearland, Texas 77581 with Rev. Dr. Phyllis Riney and Rev. Dr. Bob Joiner officiating. Interment will follow at SouthPark Cemetery in Pearland.
