Obituary of Lenard R. West

Lenard R. West, 82, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2013. He is preceded in death by his mother, Nell Ogan West. Lenard is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Kathleen West; son, Larry D. West Sr. and wife, Annette; daughter, Doll Ellis and husband, Rick; brother, Frank West; sisters, Stella Mae Collins, Jean Lane, Delta Bowlin and husband, Gene, Margie Fultz; grandchildren, Christine D. West Lee, Larry D West, Jr., Michael R. West, Lenard R. West II, Andrew C. Ellis, and Erin L. Ellis; step grandchildren, James D. Mathis III, Amanda L. Ellis Yellott, and Erick P. Ellis; twelve great grandchildren; his company family, Gregorio “Zorro” Resendiz, Sandy Brockett, Larry “Boone” Kliesing, and in remembrance, Dorothy Mae Smith; and a host of other family and friends. Lenard learned to fabricate aluminum at a young age and established L.R. West Manufacturing Co. in 1964. The company would grow to be a successful business and continues to thrive today. The success of his business was attributed to Lenard’s phenomenal mechanical mind. Lenard loved working with his hands and could make just about anything. He was known by many as either Mr. West or Lenard. Lenard was a lifetime member of the NRA; was an excellent marksman and was the Gulf Coast National Champion in Bench Rest Shooting. He loved his cars and was especially partial to his 1972 GMC Pickup Truck affectionately known as the “Orange Blossom Special”. His other treasured car was “The Hoopie,” a prized 1931 Model A Ford Coupe. Lenard was affectionately known to his family as “Grandpa”. He loved supporting Little League Baseball and sponsored numerous teams for many years. Lenard will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. A visitation for Lenard will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2013 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581. The funeral service will take place on Friday, August 16, 2013 at 10:00 am at the funeral home with Pastor Keith Anderson officiating.
