A limb has fallen from the family tree that says grieve not for me. Remember the best of times, the husband, the father, the grandfather, the great-grandfather, and the wonderful life I lived while I was strong. Doug Allman went to be with his Lord in the early morning hours of July 4, 2014. He lived to be 89 years old, 24 days shy of his 90th birthday. He was born in Texarkana, Texas on July 28, 1924. In 1947 he married the love of his life, Sybil Audean Crowson. Doug, an outstanding athlete loved baseball, playing for many semi-pro teams in the Texarkana area as well as at Sam Houston State Teachers College in 1949 and 1950. It was at Sam Houston State that he and Audean met many of their lifelong friends. Whether his enthusiasm for sports, his time spent in the Navy or his life’s journey he always enjoyed the opportunity to share his personal stories with his family and friends, much to their delight. Following his graduation from Sam Houston in the summer of 1950 he and Audean moved to Houston where they resided for the next 64 years. Doug began his career at South Texas Lumber Company, later to become a successful homebuilder throughout the Houston area. Prior to his time at Sam Houston State he proudly served 3 years in the United States Navy as an Aviation Machinist Mate Second Class aboard the USS Brookings. He served his country with pride. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Fritzi Allman and brother Austin Allman. The treasure of his heart was his wife Audean, affectionately known to him as “Pidge”. He also leaves behind his daughter, Ann Campbell and husband Robert of Pearland and son Dennis Allman and wife, Vickie of Jarrell. His beloved sister-in-law Patsy Crowson Alexander of Houston. Also left to cherish his memories are his grandchildren: Heidi Lott and husband, Albert; Heather Jordan and husband, Clark; Dusty Cole and wife, Ashley; Christopher Allman and wife, Kari; Jason Allman and wife, Lanessa; Ashley Allman and Emily Campbell. His greatest pleasures were his great grandchildren: Chloe and Camie Jordan; Savannah and Jacob Lott; Hudson Douglas Cole; and Parker, Banner, West and Clark Allman. He was remembered as a special uncle by his nephew, Gary Alexander and his nieces, Gayle Greenthaner, Lisa Ulestad and Lori Rowe. Pallbearers will be Christopher Allman, Jason Allman, Dusty Cole, Albert Lott, Clark Jordan, Gary Alexander, Jake Alexander and Jacob Lott.
