John Hargrove was as fine a man as I have ever known.
He always reminded me of an early day Texas Ranger, tough wiry, and respected by all.
Beyond his many accomplishments, he would have made an excellent football coach. We would sit and watch the same game, often that of his grandson Vincent, and while I was invariably drawn to following the ball, he could tell you what happened all over the field and on both sides of the line – on a single play.
Most of all I remember him in his last year, and often wracked by pain, driving alone time and time again to hear Sabra sing at the old Coffee Oasis in Seabrook. Not a short drive. No greater love than a father and daughter.
They named a bridge for John in Pearland, and now
he has traveled across that Great Bridge and beyond the curtain. No man left a better track.
John Hargrove, a man for all ages.
Larry Jones (Sabra’s husband)
