Dearest Jerrel and beloved family,
I have been thinking of you all since I heard that Darling, delightful Dorene went to be in heaven with the angels. I am so sorry that I couldn’t be there for the memorial, but know how much of an inspiration she made in my life as a lady. I was so fortunate to get to live with you all when I first came to Houston. I felt like the Okie from Muskogee had moved to this big, big city. You all took me under your wings as always whenever I talked to Dorene on the phone. Your family is truly a loving endearing family. Dorene inspired me to be loving, gracious and funny too as a lady in life. I learned so much and used it in my teaching just living with you all. Thank you, thank you to your family for embracing those too who entered your home. There is a loss in our lives, but her words of wisdom and most of all her wittiness and laughter will forever carry me in my daily life. I am just saddened that I can’t pick up the phone and hear that sweet endearing voice. You helped this little Okie understand the true meaning of the word, Texan. Generousity was a virtue of hers. I also learned to stand on my feet through Dorene. I am sorry my parents didn’t make it as a beautiful couple like you Jerrel. Your love was shown everyday in your eyes and laughter like Dorene’s. Not too many couples cherish marriage as you two did. Oklahoma has lost a fine lady. I say goodbye for now, but it is true, I will whisper her name when I need her and know that she is in my heart always. The Sullivan name will continue through her children and grandchildren. I know everyone will continue that loving faith that she projected in each one of our hearts. Her home was truly a home of acceptance, love, and laughter. You will all be in my heart forever. Love always, Denise

When I first met Dorene, about 58 years ago, I knew that she would one day be part of our family. We got lucky! I did not have sisters but my brothers married perfect women. Dorene was one of the kindest persons I have ever known. Our parents loved her as if she were one of their own, we all did. She was a wonderful wife to my brother, the best mother and grandmother as well as a true sister to me. We all have so many memories throughout the years, she will never be forgotten, Se is forever in our hearts.

Aunt Dorene was one of the greatest and kindest persons I have ever known. Her laughter was contagious and her personality, her humor, and her very being fit so perfectly with our family. Even as a child, even before she married my uncle, I knew she was family.
